Inside Culture – S2 #19 (Raoul Martinez, Savage Town, GIRL SONG, Ranelagh Arts Fest, Erin McGathy)

On this week’s show, Fionn Davenport talks to artist, writer and portrait painter Raoul Martinez about his book Creating Freedom in which he explores the limits placed on freedom by society and human nature.

Ennis native Declan Shalvey, who has worked for Marvel and DC Comics, chats to Fionn about his new graphic novel Savage Town, which is loosely based on events in Limerick over a decade ago.

Producer Zoe Comyns pays a visit to the rehearsals of GIRL SONG, the new dance theatre production by multi award winning choreographer Emma Martin. The show premieres as part of next month’s Dublin Theatre Festival.

Ahead of the Family, Friends and Lovers, A Celebration of Contemporary Irish Portraiture exhibition which runs as part of this year’s Ranelagh Arts Festival, we visit Una Sealy’s North Dublin home studio to report on the unique relationship between artist and sitter and how that changes when there is already a close bond between the two.

And finally, American born, Irish based comedian Erin McGathy speaks to Fionn from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival about her one-woman murder mystery show, Murdertown which she brings to the Cork Comedy Festival on September 23rd.
